Great Churches of Milwaukee

Visit three of the landmark churches in Milwaukee while witnessing St. Josephat’s Basilica, St. Joan of Arc Chapel and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with a stop for lunch at a Milwaukee landmark restaurant.

Built more than 96 years ago by Polish immigrants, the Basilica of St. Josephat is one of 33 Basilicas in the U.S. Considered a national landmark the classic architecture, stained glass windows and murals pay tribute to Milwaukee’s cultural heritage.

Originally built in the French village of Chasse during the mid-15th century, the St. Joan of Arc Chapel is a small Gothic Chapel that was brought to the U.S. in 1927 as a centerpiece on a New York Estate. In the early 1960’s the estate was acquired by a Wisconsin family who donated the chapel to Marquette University. The chapel was then disassembled, stone by stone, sent to Marquette and painstakingly rebuilt. In 1966 the Chapel was dedicated to St. Joan of Arc.

One of the last buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church has been a Milwaukee landmark since it was built in the 1970’s. You will be given a guided tour of the church and have a chance to experience the blend of old and new in this amazing structure.

All of the interior rooms are carefully restored with period furniture, along with the exquisite craftsmanship and details given to the wood, glass and ironwork throughout the home to create an authentic replica of a Victorian Mansion.
